ACEN and Yanara bring shared value to communities in Sual’s Barangay Capantolan
The transition to clean energy is not only about replacing power sources—it is about improving lives. For progress to be meaningful, it must be shared with the communities that host these developments.
This principle guides the partnership between ACEN and Yanara in Sual’s Barangay Capantolan, Pangasinan, where the 69 MWdc Sual Solar Plant will be developed. Beyond supporting the country’s shift away from coal, the project is designed to create tangible, lasting benefits for its host community.
Working closely with the Barangay Council of Capantolan, ACEN and Yanara identified key areas where support could make an immediate difference. The collaboration led to the development of essential infrastructure focused on improving daily life – enhancing access to clean water (SDG 6), enabling affordable and clean energy (SDG 7), and strengthening connectivity to unlock economic opportunities.

Around 30 families in the barangay previously faced challenges due to limited access to clean water. In response, deep wells equipped with manual pumps were installed across the community. Residents can now access clean water at any time of day, improving both health outcomes and everyday convenience.
Connectivity has also significantly improved. Residents once had to cross open fields and uneven terrain to reach the main road. With the completion of a new access road, travel within and beyond the barangay has become safer and more efficient. The road now links residents to essential services, markets, and neighboring towns, while also supporting workers traveling to and from the Sual Solar Plant site.
Even after sunset, the benefits continue. Solar-powered streetlights have been installed across the barangay, providing reliable, clean-energy lighting. This has made evenings safer and more active—allowing children to play longer and residents to move around with greater confidence.
While project implementation was carried out through Renovable Earth Corp., a subsidiary jointly owned by ACEN and Yanara, the Barangay Council now leads the upkeep of these facilities. More than infrastructure, these initiatives have become shared community assets—built through collaboration and sustained through local stewardship.
This partnership reflects a broader commitment by ACEN and Yanara to support sustainable and inclusive communities (SDG 11), ensuring that the benefits of the energy transition extend beyond power generation.
As both companies expand their renewable energy footprint across the region, they remain focused on a dual objective: delivering clean, reliable energy while creating long-term value for communities. The Sual Solar Plant stands as an example of how the energy transition can be both transformative and inclusive—grounded in the everyday realities of the people it serves.
